Well, the general TEFL certification requirements are fairly homogeneous, in as much that they necessitate a minimum of 100 hours of in-classroom training and at least six hours of observed teaching practice. In addition, ‘adhering to internationally recognized standards’ may also mean that the supplier, is a paid up member of one or more professional associations. However, very few of these associations actually assess course content, or visit their members to check on the standards of their facilities. If they do, they are unlikely to ‘flunk’ or disapprove of the TEFL providers, who are paying them substantial membership fees.
