T.E.F.L. Course - Frequently Asked Facts and Questions:
I’ve never taught before/ I know nothing about teaching.
Sometimes this is an advantage. Without any previous teaching experience, you will approach the course with an open mind. As a result, you will probably find it easier to learn, and practice our teaching methods.
We place great emphasis on the practical side of teaching. We can build our trainees confidence through different activities and exercises, specifically structured to do this.
Also, through our guidance, we will develop the teaching traits that are lurking within you. Our training will then build on these qualities, until you have the ability to teach confidently, professionally and successfully.

I am an experienced teacher, how will your TEFL course benefit me?
Firstly, unless you have majored in English, you will still require a recognized TEFL certificate to teach in Thailand. Secondly, it doesn’t matter how much experience a teacher has had, there are always new ideas and methods to keep abreast of. We have had many experienced teachers attend our course. The majority have been able to successfully combine the skills and techniques they already had, with the methods taught by us. Consequently they became better teachers

I only received a basic education, my knowledge of grammar is non existent. How will I be able to teach English?
You will be surprised how well you speak English (if you concentrate), and how well you apply the rules of English grammar without knowing what the rules really are.
Just like a taxi driver has to know his way around town, English teachers have know their way around English grammar in order to teach effectively. Therefore; you will need a good grasp of English grammar to explain it simply and clearly to your students. Grammar is an important part of our tefl programme, and we will teach you how to communicate it in a professional and effective manner.

Do I need a degree?
Technically, the answer is yes. Specifically in Pattaya and Bangkok, where you will need a Bachelors Degree or equivalent to obtain a teachers license, which is the first step towards obtaining a work permit. However, this is not always a requirement in the Thai provinces
Furthermore, this is Thailand, and a good teacher will always be appreciated by their school. Teaching is not just about academic qualifications. Being intellectual doesn’t automatically mean you will be a good teacher.
So don’t let the fact that you do not have a degree put you off. There are many graduates from this course, who came to Thailand without a degree, but are still teaching happily and legally in ‘The Land of Smiles’.

Will I find work in Thailand?
That’s a guaranteed ‘YES’. There is an acute shortage of English teachers throughout Thailand. Be it in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket or in the more remote provinces. Believe it, you are needed NOW!

I am not a native English speaker, will this prevent me from getting a job?
Admittedly, most schools are looking for native English Speakers. However, we have had Scandinavian, Dutch, German, Swiss, Italian and French nationals attend and graduate successfully from our T.E.F.L. course. All of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers as teachers in Thailand.

What visa assistance will you provide?
Once you have booked your place on the course and paid a deposit, we will send you the necessary documentation to enable you to obtain a non immigrant ‘B’ visa, which is what you will need to apply for a work permit once you have finished the course. This visa will permit you stay in Thailand for a period of up to fifteen months, and can be applied for from the Thai Embassy or Consulate in your own country.
